About the course:
Unconscious bias is prejudice that operates at an implicit, subtle and unobvious level. It is a type of bias that you or the people around you are unaware of and may even deny, but is actually there hiding beneath the surface, waiting to affect decisions that you or others make.
At the workplace, unconscious bias comes in many different forms such as gender, racial, affinity and conformity bias. Factors that objectively ought to be irrelevant to the decision-making process are unintentionally influential because as human beings, we have a natural tendency to stereotype and even discriminate.
Regardless of the type of unconscious bias, the end result is inevitably the same: where unconscious bias exists, some parts of the workforce will be unfairly excluded from opportunities for which they ought to have exposure to.
However, unconscious bias is notoriously tricky to tackle. How can you confront something that people may not be aware of, and may even vehemently deny?
